White Cane Day is a yearly national day of observance established by President Lyndon Johnson in 1964. The day is set aside to celebrate the many achievements of people who are blind and visually impaired, and their important symbol of independence, the white cane.
Over 150 blind and visually impaired people, as well as, many sighted volunteers will participate in this annual celebration beginning at 601 SW 8th Ave. and proceeding down 8th street and then back to Miami Lighthouse’s campus.
This is the one time of year we ask our grateful clients to give back to this remarkable place that many call their second home. Event sponsors include presenting sponsors Florida Blue, High Standard Home Care and Uber, along with McDonald’s, Starbucks, OrCam, Vispero, Ambutech, Lions for the Blind, TracFone and others.

Mi nombre es Nilda Zamora y llevo algunos años en el Centro de rehabilitacion Miami Lighthouse. Formo parte del programa de artes manuales, ingles, computacion, cocina, y otras actividades donde he hecho muchas amistades. A todos los quiero con mucho cariño y respeto. Los instructores nos ayudan con las actividades diarias porque para nosotros que no podemos apreciar muchas cosas con nuestros ojos por ejemplo , la luz del dia, los colores de las flores y del mar, nosotros podemos sentir con las manos y con el Corazon. Es posible ser independiente, sentir util y feliz aun despues de perder la vista.
Este año el 15 de Octobre 2020, se celebrara una vez más el Dia de Bastón Blanco. El evento será virtual, como todos los servicios y entrenamento estan siendo realizados virtualmente . Gracias por su atención y por ayudar a que este centro continue abierto y apoyando la comunidad. Aquí les comparto mis mas sinceros agradecimientos atraves de mis palabras sobre esta organización que me ha ayudado tanto y que considero como mi segunda casa . Es maravilloso que exista una organizacion como Miami Lighthouse para ayudar a las personas como yo quehan perdido la vista o las que nacieron sin vista poder sentirse felices. Estoy muy agradecida por todo lo que he recibido de Miami Lighthouse y les deseo a todos un feliz dia del bastón blanco y por favor ayuden a nuestra organizacion con su donacion
